Why Follow-up is Crucial

There are 6 criteria for getting a sale:

  • Your prospect must want what you offer
  • Your prospect must know you
  • Your prospect must like you
  • Your prospect must trust you
  • It must be the right time for your prospect to buy

If you were counting, you noticed I only listed 5 criteria. And you know all these things rarely come together the first time you talk to someone. That is why the sixth criteria is crucial!

  • Your prospect must remember you when they are ready to buy or when someone asks them for a referral to your product or service

Un”fortune”ately, you probably don’t follow up as well as you would like. Most people don’t.

There are a lot of reasons. The ones my clients mention most often are:

  • they are too busy with current clients
  • they aren’t sure what to say
  • they don’t know how long they should follow up
  • they don’t want to seem pushy
  • it’s too complicated

And, of course, some of my clients tell me they do follow up, but it just doesn’t seem to be effective.
